Polar Bear Conservation Status

Polar bear conservation status – History

Because of the geographical location of the polar bears habitat there is no real threat history towards the polar bears. Obviously they were shot if they attacked humans that travelled that far north but were seldom shot upon from afar in a way to conserve ammunition. The fact that most parts on the polar bear are slightly toxic towards humans is the reason to why the polar bear never was hunted for food. The few humans living on those latitudes and polar bears have more or less adapted to each other.

Polar bear conservation status – Protection

Even though not really hunted the polar bear is still considered to be a vulnerable species because, as it turns out, there are not that many of them. Getting them on the list of endangered species was not an easy task though because there was no real threat to protect the polar bears from and no one wanted to take responsibility over something they can not have any affect upon. Only after several lawsuits against the US Government did the polar bear conservation status become an interest to them.

Polar bear conservation status – Problems

The main reason to why the polar bears are an endangered species is the melting of the polar caps due to the global warming. This leads to an enormous problem because first of all, no one is really sure what is the reason to global warming, and secondly, mankind does not know how to stop it from happening or even if we should prevent the global warming. One thing is for sure, if the climate changes and temperature raises prevails the only place one will be able to see polar bears is in chilled zoos.
